About The Authors

Jim and Debby Mills are the parents of eight children.  They have been home educating since 1986.  Their oldest son, Trevor, had spent ten years in public school special education day programs for the severely handicapped. In 1991 they brought him home for school full-time.  The family is very pleased with his progress and have no regrets!

Since that time, Debby has been  designing IEP's specific to home education.  Currently she speaks at conferences and conducts  IEP workshops to help parents create their own skill-infused functional curriculums.  Debby also serves as a special home education consultant and contributing editor writing articles related to parenting.

Jim and Debby are the California state coordinators for NATHHAN. They have been training through TASK (Team of Advocates for Special Kids) and have been pilot parents for San Diego's Parent to Parent Support Network through the Exceptional Family Resources Center.

In 1993, Jim and Debby began a local support group called Special Children - Special Blessings.  Christian Family Schools of San Diego has honored them with the Pioneers Award  in appreciation for their ministry to special needs families in the community.  The goal of their ministry is to encourage parents with special needs children so that their families will be a light in this dark world through the power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
